Almansa is the Spanish town twined with Saint-Médard-en-Jalles
It is situated in the middle of nowhere, half way between Madrid and Valencia.
This town has about 25000 inhabitants and seems that they have all been cobblers for generations back to the Maure
occupation in the middle ages.
We love to go there in the first week of May which is pagan festivity time. One only gets about three hours sleep a day.
About 80% of the population is in fancy dress, and their fabulous parades can last three hours non stop.
They celebrate the numerous battles that used to rage between the Maures and the Christians. The rest of
the time is shared between eating, drinking, theatre, music and dancing. No tourists ever come to see it, as it is not advertised
